Connection Problems

What should I do when I get a "No Dialtone" message?
Turn off the computer. Check if your telephone line is dead. If not make sure that the Phone line is plugged in properly and in the right socket at the back of your computer. The Phone line should go into the socket labelled "LINE" or "WALL". Plugging the wire into the proper socket is vital .

What to do if I get an "%Access Denied" Message?
Make sure that you are typing the password in small letters. The caps-lock should be turned off. Check if you are typing the correct password. Is your account OK?? Phone our Accounts department and ask them to check the balance remaining in your account.

What to do if there are jumbled (garbage) characters in the Black (terminal) window?
This problem is associated with line noise. The permanent solution to this problem is a better, noiseless line. In the meanwhile you can still connect by lowering the maximum connect speed of the modem. Double click on My Computer. Double click on Dial-up Networking. Right click on Brain NET and click on properties. Click the button labelled configure. Lower the maximum connect speed. NOTE: This problem can also occur due to modem malfuntions.

I get a message saying "Dial-up Networking could not establish the correct set of network protocols....", what should I do?
Make sure that you get the Post Dial Terminal Window (Black window). Make sure that you dont get an access denied message there. Press the continue (F7) button when you see the jumbled characters. If the problem persists, Call our helpline and seek help.

Web Browsing/Download Problems
Browsing speed is very Slow?
Have you properly setup the proxy?

I get an error like "Name server lookup for http://www.anything.com" (etc.) failed", what should I do?
The website that you are trying to load does not exist. Please check that you are using the correct spellings.

"Netscape is unable to locate the server www.brain.net.pk ......", what should I do?
You must connect to Brain First. Double Click on My Computer. Double Click on Dial-up Networking and Double Click on Brain NET.

The program wants me to enter the supervisor password. What's that?
In Internet Explorer 3, you can set-up Rating system so that certain sites that fail to be according to your ratings, cannot be viewed (censor-ship, of a type). This is the supervisor password. If you haven't set it, somebody, who recently worked on your computer has. Ask him for the password.

E-Mail Problems

I got a mail from "Mailer-Daemon" saying that "Mail-Failed"?
You mistyped the e-mail address on a recent mail that you sent. Please check the e-mail address, and resend the message. Call our helpline if continue having this trouble.

I get a message saying "Cannot logon to mail server"?
Check if you have set the mail server as "brain.net.pk". Check if your username is written correclty. If you changed your password recently, retype the new password. If this trouble continues, Call our helpline and seek help

Faxaway Problems

an e-mail to Fax more than a day, still no reply?
Is the mail still in outbox?. If so, click on the Tools menu and click on deliver now. Call our helpline if continue having this trouble.
How do I know my balance in the faxaway account?
Whenever you send an e-mail to fax, you get a reply indicating your account status along with other information. You can also call our office and ask for the balance.

Miscellaneous

How do I setup usenet news on Internet Explorer?
Goto View in menu bar, choose Options and then News.
Click on Internet Explorer ToRead Internet News Group.
Type in "news.brain.net.pk" in News Server Address and type in your Name and E-mail in the section below.

How do I setup usenet news on Netscape 3 / Gold?
Goto Options and choose Mail and News Preferences.
Choose Servers and type in "news.brain.net.pk" in News NNTP Server.
Click on OK.

Things to keep in mind when on the internet
Donot Send out any important information (e.g. credit card no, etc) on the internet.
Avoid changing the settings once your system is working properly, unless you are sure of what you are doing.
Change your password frequently. Keep a long, hard to guess password. Giving popular passwords like your name or the number of your car are not good ideas. Keep your password only to yourself.

Don't send mass mails. Your account may be freezed as a result.
