To build a forum that could connect YOU to other professionals of our business (textile, apparel and fashion industries) by creating meaningful linkages in print media - to empower our people through information about our world in an easy and accessible fashion from the CEO's down to the front line managers and supervisors. The focus has always been on YOU. The objective is not to give you conclusions - but to ask the questions and let you supply the answers. To provide you with information that can help you make things better in your workplace - to serve as "a window to your changing world." None of it has changed with the passage of time. The more time I put in this industry, the more I realize the importance of consistent and updated information about the big picture and the world we work in. All of us have looming deadlines that need to be met at expense of everything else - it's a race against time. The natural tendency in such situations is to zoom in on those troubled spots (to focus better on the problems and their solutions) and zoom out the unnecessary details. This unfortunately develops a tunnel vision, which in turn is counterproductive - the insignificant details matter too in the big picture. Besides, you tend to forget in the process that everything in this world is moving in one direction only and that's forward and you need to keep pace with it. What distinguishes the winners from the losers in this race is their speed only. People who achieve the highest speed possible in that one moment in time win - The winners are flexible whatever the circumstances, but they never ever lose sight of their goals and they don't quit--period. I am talking about your ability to adapt and still stay focused on your dreams. Time, change and consistency are synonymous in my book. This may look like a contradiction in terms but when you really think about it. It makes sense - the only constant are your goals - the rest are all variables. The only thing you can really control is your speed. Change is a consistent force and it is moving in time in only one direction - forward. You need to align yourself with change and time. The more you pull in its opposite direction, the more your chances of failure. Bottom line, move with the times, not against its compelling force or risk losing out. I have been making some decisions these past few months. Tkfr must go on because the need for it is still there. The question was, how? I as a managing editor have had two problems consistently - time and money. I have decided to focus on time and forget about the money. I have decided to take Tkfr to the web as a full time interactive website - Tkfr has been on the web since we started; however, the focus has always been on the print edition only. I have decided to shift my focus-- The objective is to make Tkfr accessible to a wider audience in the limited resources available in a timely manner. I plan to update the website once a month with Adnan's active support starting January 2002. So what about the print edition? I am reducing its size. Tkfr print edition will be a supplement to the website. I am reducing the number of pages of the print edition to cut costs and save time. It has been a nightmare trying to run Tkfr on a shoestring budget. Tkfr has been running in a loss because of its lenient advertising policy, higher costs and lower revenues. I have learnt my lesson. I do not plan to repeat past mistakes. We will run 3-4 ads per issue that will pay for its printing, distribution and upkeep. God willing, our revenues will now match our costs! For the record - Tkfr will be run on not for profit basis. I am just making it official and part of our mission statement. Enjoy! |
